CLASSROOM RULES AND GUIDELINES

1.      Each student is required to have a separate notebook for this class. This notebook will be used to keep all graded papers, homework assignments, and notes taken in class. Keeping this notebook and being organized will help you succeed in this class. Please do not use your textbook as a notebook by folding papers and shoving them between the pages.

2.      Students are expected to have their AGENDA, textbook, notebook and something to write with EVERY DAY!! I am not a pencil, pen, and notebook dispenser.

3.      Students are expected to follow all FSHS rules that are listed in the student handbook.

4.      All homework should be completed on time. Late work will only receive partial credit when turned in late.

5.      NO EXTRA CREDIT is available in this class. The assignments and tests given throughout the grading period will determine you grade.

6.      Make use of Seminar. I will be in the building around 7:30 AM each day but may not have time to meet with a student. I am involved in after school activities all year so your best opportunity to meet with me to discuss a problem will be during Seminar. Students will need to sign up to come to my classroom during seminar.

7.      Students are expected to display maturity and intelligence in this classroom. Inappropriate behavior will be dealt with according to assertive discipline.

Examples of inappropriate behavior

Blowing bubbles in class

Writing personal notes

SLEEPING

eating or drinking in class (this includes suckers)

Profanity

Cosmetology activities ( braiding hair, putting on makeup)

8.      Most tests will be multiple choice, short answer, fill in the blank, matching, essay. Quizzes will be given throughout each chapter with a test at the end of each chapter. A mastery test will be given at the end of each semester. Each test may be retaken ONCE with my permission and must be retaken with in one week of the original test. Scores will be averaged.

9.      Tests will be announced in advance. If you are absent the day of a test you are expected to make up the test the DAY YOU RETURN TO CLASS. Please do not ask for extra days to prepare unless you have excellent reasons for not being prepared.

10.  Substitute teachers will be in this class from time to time. They are to be treated with respect and compassion. Consequences for problems during a Substitute’s stay in my room will be severe.

11.  Restroom breaks and drinks are to be taken care of during passing periods.

12.  Please put your first and last names, block period, and date on all materials turned in to me.

In a class like this procedures and expectations are important. The following should be understood:

1)      DO NOT TALK while I am talking in front of the class.

2)      I expect good attendance as it is difficult to achieve much without attending class. You will receive points for attendance that will apply to your grade.

3)      Please do not work on assignments for other classes during my class. If you finish your work in here early use good judgment.

4)      Have your materials with you daily

5)      Enter and Exit the classroom orderly not over the desks. We are not in grade school so we do not need to line up at the door at the end of class. Remember this, the instructor excuses you not the bell.

6)      Trash and waste material should never be left on the floor or in the desks.

7)      The teacher’s desk, computer, and phone are considered off limits to students.

8)      During testing, no talking.

9)      During a guest speaker presentation, be attentive, courteous, and prepared to ask appropriate questions.

10)  During a video, keep your head off your desk.

11)  If a problem arises please see me as soon as possible. Don’t let it go on too long or we may not have the means or opportunity to fix the problem.
